Back in 2008, Alternatives launched our Corporate Social Responsibility programme under the banner of Marketing for Change.
Having been shortlisted for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards in 2008, part of the process involved a trip out to Haiti. Professor Kellie McElhaney from Berkley University spoke to the finalists on how companies might approach Corporate Social Responsibility from a different angle. “Do something meaningful that fulfils you strategic competence” was the mantra that we took home with us.
Our Marketing for Change programme is about investing in our company’s skills and resources directly and leveraging our particular skill set. We facilitate marketers in Ireland to donate their time and expertise to charities for an agreed period of time to work on specific marketing projects that can help make a difference to the charities involved.
With the slogan “Give Time, Give Talent” willing marketers are partnered with our charity clients and generously volunteer their skills and marketing experience for an agreed period of time. Our volunteers bring their individual skill sets to the specific marketing projects that can help make a difference to the charities involved. These projects have in the past ranged from developing clear strategies and communications plans to informing their advertising and PR campaigns.
Temple Street Hospital registered with the programme in pursuit of a highly skilled consultant to advice on communications strategies – “This programme has delivered just that. We were really impressed at the calibre of volunteers we met with and ease of process to date. The Marketing for Change project is a wonderful resource for NFP organisations and offers a fresh approach to volunteering for professionals.”

During its inception, Alternatives was looking for a cause to support as we built the business. We were immediately taken with the HOPE foundation, which works to get thousands of children in Calcutta off the streets and, critically, to a place of safety.
As a supporter of the Hope Foundation we raise money each year through various drives including participation in the Dublin Mini Marathon which has become a company calendar highlight and sees participation from the team, some clients and some of our candidates!
